THE PERSON
You will be a highly motivated results driven Operations Manager, with a strong background in engineering, production, operations and procurement, with a potential knowledge of electrics, but not essential. You will have an inquisitive but logical problem solving mind and energy to proceed even when the challenge is tough and the deadline and budgets are tight. You will happily get stuck in at work and social events and communicate with all members of staff from office, factory to warehouse. Have a hands-on approach to all tasks with a passion for cultural change, leadership, implementing continuous improvement & Lean manufacturing techniques.

JOB SUMMARY
As the Operations Manager you will be involved with the planning, coordination and control of manufacturing processes, procurement and stock controls. You will ensure that goods and services are produced efficiently and effectively in line with only the utmost level of quality and customer satisfaction. The Operations Manager will take an active role in managing & contributing to all manufacturing processes and the company wide Continuous Improvement Programmes whilst leading the associated teams to maximise efficiencies.

1. Production:
•Proactively review products for a better fit for production and assembly alongside members of production team. (quality, cost, productivity, customer satisfaction), including BOMs
•Lead on manufacturing and assembly productivity and quality improvements (e.g. fast changeover fixtures, different technologies [e.g. replacing costly and inefficient processes)
•Overseeing Kanban process and rules, reviews of Kanban levels, product by product (component and finished goods Kanban’s)
•Assessment, sourcing and implementation of technologies and processes new to M&C (whether bringing in-house or with external suppliers)
•Oversee and manage any updates or improvements to the machines, systems, facilities, shop floor etc. Propose investments as and when appropriate. Quote and source tools and tooling staff to carry out works.
•Ensure adequate training and support is supplied to all shop floor and warehouse staff and supervisors.
•Develop robust housekeeping and communication flow between Purchasing, Warehouse, Production and Sales Department.
•Implement Continuous improvement & Lean Manufacturing techniques
•Ensure we ‘Delight the Customer’ at every step.

2. Procurement:
•Work with various team members on supplier selection, evaluation, consolidation – including supplier Audits, scorecards and ongoing support.
•Cost improvement projects with suppliers.
•Product / component improvement projects with suppliers (for example, changing component design or specification so that they are more readily assembled in to finished product – DFMA cases)
•Make or buy business cases (to outsource or not)
•Work with staff to ensuring that engineering drawings and product specifications are up to date and maintained (in order of importance in conjunction with the in-house Designer, Engineer & Production staff)

3. Warehousing:
•Overseeing finished goods Kanban establishment (product by product) and leading internal team to establish and develop internal process and rules;
•Oversee cost and continuous improvements programs
•Introduce barcoding and ongoing efficiencies.

4. New product development and product changes:
•Project managing the introduction of new products and changes, in conjunction with other key M&C staff and suppliers, to ensure productivity, cost and quality standards are met or exceeded;
•Ensuring new products have proper design drawings and specification documentation and that the necessary information is communicated to suppliers;

5. Other:
•Proactive identification of improvement opportunities for M&C (product, process, technology);
•Oversee the hiring, training and monitoring of the shop floor and warehouse personnel.
•Conduct annual staff appraisals and assessments to determine staff training needs.

Measures of progress:
•KPI’s will be set by the Managing Director upon successful application.

LOCATION & HOURS
Mitchell & Cooper Ltd, Uckfield. The factory is based in beautiful East Sussex. Working hours are Monday – Friday 08:15 – 17:00. The Company offers 21 days Holiday - plus bank holidays, Pension, Birthday Day Off, Life Assurance Scheme, Health Insurance upon completion of probation period. The person
Experienced Supply Chain Manager, to work alongside and report to the Senior Supply Chain Manager. Experience of working in a purchasing environment is essential and experience of purchasing industrial components and services in a manufacturing setting is highly desirable. The suitable person needs to be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a team and independently and be methodical and diligent to follow and conform to the company’s standards and policies.
The role
•Procure products and components
•Work closely with colleagues in sales and customer service, product design and development, production, warehousing and accounts
•To build relationships and work with external suppliers to locate appropriate goods and services to schedule deliveries and negotiate purchase prices
•Microsoft Navision IT Software (NAV16) to maintain accurate records
•To arrange the import of goods from UK and overseas
•Receiving courier invoices and dealing with queries
•Improving overall supply chain performance
•Monitor suppliers performance
•Monitor stock levels
