How to Change the Bonzer Can Opener Wheel
We recommend that wheels are changed at the same time as changing the blade to optomise performance of the product. Over time the grip of the wheel will wear due to friction caused while rotating cans, this will lead to the wheel slipping against the can rim. We recommend the change the wheel and blade at least every 1,500 cans.
Changing a wheel on a Classic, EZ20, EZ40, EZ 60 and Titan
Ensure can opener is sitting in base in the correct position for use
Do not remove the trigger mechanism on EZ models.
Engage the handle into operational mode (down position)
Place the metal rod (provided with new wheel) in the back right hand side of the wheel and wind the handle anticlockwise until the handle becomes loose.
Lift the handle out of the head & wipe shaft clean.
Remove the wheel from the chamber by sliding the wheel out the back of the head of the can opener
Replace with a new wheel ensuring the Bonzer® text side is facing downward (label on wheel must face upwards)
Insert handle and push down firmly to reconnect.
Place metal rod in the back left hand side and wind the handle clockwise until you feel it lock.
When locked in position no need to tighten firmly, it will hold its position. Over tightening can cause damage.
Cleaning the Bonzer Can Opener
Table top can openers have been identified as potential traps for dirt and bacteria if not regularly cleaned and maintained.
It doesn’t take long for food to become trapped in the mechanism providing a growing medium for bacteria. Cross contamination can easily occur as these bacteria are transferred to the contents of a freshly opened can. Some models have anti-bacterial blades which inhibit the growth of bacteria, but thorough cleaning is imperative to minimize contamination. On many models it is difficult to reach or remove key parts such as the blades, wheels and gears that are in contact with the can’s contents. This means cleaning is very difficult and may not be carried out to a sufficiently high standard to eliminate potentially harmful bacteria.
All Bonzer Can Openers have removable blade carriers, this allows the user to remove this part for cleaning.
Eaziclean models feature patent design quick release blade carriers for easy cleaning and are dishwasher safe. Easiclean NSF certified versions have quick release blade carriers plus stainless steel blades removable without tools and are dishwasher safe. Mitchell and Cooper are regularly audited by NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) to make sure the product complies with food safety regulations.
Quick release system activated by pushing the handle forward to release the blade carrier. Blade is removed by hand-operated knurled screws (NSF model). Gear wheel and other components are removed by restricting gear while turning handle anti-clockwise.
Assembling Your Can Opener
When changing the wheel of your can opener, occasionally removing the handle assembly completely can cause other parts such as the spring, collar and collar washer to fall out of the head. We have produced a short video and download to show the order the parts need to go back into the can opener. The PDF download also lists the item numbers you'll need for replacing these parts.
The model shown is the EZ-20 but the parts for all can openers replicate the order despite being different in size.
